A three-week tour of the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra and Valery Gergiev in the USA & Canada has come to a close. We have performed 18 concerts over 21 day at 11 venues (including a five-concert residency at the Carnegie Hall, which has launched a new season there, 120 years since Tchaikovsky conducted at the opening of inaugural season there). A complete Tchaikovsky Symphony cycle has been played twice (at the Carnegie Hall in New York and at the Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley). Take a look at our Facebook page posts on what we’ve been up to and how audiences received us (perhaps you were one of them). On the Mariinsky web-site, you can read some selected press reviews on our North American concerts: covering the USA East Coast (7 concerts) the USA West Coast (7 concerts) and Canada (4 concerts). These pages contain direct links to articles publsihed in media. We have been delighted to receive numerous tweets from our North American fans and to interact with them beyond the stage: on twitter, as we’ve been travelling through the USA and Canadian cities. |

On October 28th, 29th & 30th, the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra
and Valery Gergiev will hold a three-evening residency
at the Baden-Baden will become the fourth music venue over the last month where
the Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev performs a cycle of
SIX Symphonies by Tchaikovsky (other three are Beijing, New York and Berkeley).
Previously, we performed the complete Tchaikovsky cycle only once
at the Salle Pleyel in Paris in January 2010
when we have made a live recording
of Symphonies Nos. 4, 5 & 6,
which were released on the Mariinsky Label in DVD and Valery Gergiev, the President of the 14th International Tchaikovsky Competition, feels it is highly important to provide all Competition Winners with an opportunity to hold an active concert schedule, focussing entirely on music, developing their talents and advancing musical skills, rather than spending time on organisational issues. Joint concerts by the Competition Winners and world-class orchestras under Valery Gergiev at major concert halls are one of his top priorities. |
